Since 1999, the year I started training seriously – although I made a lot of mistakes – I have run 113 marathons and ultras, plus many other shorter races. I started with the classic road marathons, then gradually lengthened with the ultras and gradually became fascinated by the trails, without disdaining time trials, such as the 24-hour track races.  Since 2015, I have also tried to make run others. First by bringing parkrun to Italy: weekly 5 km races/walks, open to everyone, now widespread in 23 countries; then by bringing to Sicily the spirit of Tor des Geants, the ultratrail considered the hardest in the world. The Cursa di Ciclopi was born from the awareness of being able to repropose the format of the Valdostan race in Sicily, in an area rich in mountains, sea, art and history. The downtime due to the pandemic was an opportunity to study, and then explore in person, the 500-plus kilometres of paths, dirt roads, asphalt roads, paving, and beaches that make up the Cursa route. To make sure I don’t miss anything, I will be accompanying far more emblazoned athletes during the ZERO edition, organised to test the route of the Cursa and to check the timing and gates. The bet is to bring athletes from all over the world to Sicily next year to experience a fantastic adventure with the Cursa di Ciclopi.

MEMBERLoredana Introini

Since 2015 I have been involved in non-profit activities in the sports sector. It all started with my involvement in the operation that brought parkrun – the world’s most popular running event – to Italy for the first time, following contacts made with parkrun Global in the UK. The focus on this sector continues to this day with my participation in Cursa di Ciclopi, created together with the other organising partners, with the hope of enhancing not only the richness of Sicily’s natural environment, but also its many historical and cultural beauties.

MEMBERElisa Ioppolo

I am a trekking enthusiast, trail runner and in love with my land. I immediately welcomed and adopted Giorgio and Aldo’s idea to organise this Cyclopean event among the beauty of Sicily.

MEMBERAldo Siragusa

Aldo Siragusa is the man who brought Trail Running to Sicily and made its widespread diffusion on the island possible through the creation of the EcotrailSicilia Circuit. Currently a teacher of motor sciences, he was a good athlete both on the track and on the road, before converting to Trail running and also participating in several Ultra, including the UTLO, the CCC and the UTMB.
